Holland Casino Utrecht shines with TECTURA ALFHA1 aluminium façade

The expressive aluminum façade gives the Holland Casino a unique character. The uniform surface of TECTURA ALFHA1 not only ensures perfect reflection of indirect lighting, but also allows it to be used as a media façade and display detailed video content.

The new Holland Casino Utrecht was designed by OZ Architects as a diamond-shaped building. In addition to an entertainment floor with associated gastronomy, the building also includes a spacious parking garage for visitors. The sculptural design opens across the entire entrance area and tapers to a point, creating a welcoming gesture for visitors to enter the building.

The façade consists of 6,000 gold-anodized panels in three different sizes, made from Speira’s TECTURA ALFHA1 aluminium sheets in 2 mm thickness. The façade elements are shaped like scales and reflect the sunlight at different angles throughout the day. The golden façade is also reflected in the water of the adjacent canal. The outstanding uniformity of the color anodizing is due to the perfect surface finish of the aluminium used and a fully automated anodizing system.

A part of the anodized façade panels is additionally perforated to allow ventilation of the parking garage and natural light to enter the offices at the top of the building. At night, 9000 LEDs integrated into the façade illuminate the building in a variety of colors. The Holland Casino has received BREEAM Excellence certification for its outstanding energy efficiency. The British certification system is considered the oldest and most widely used assessment for sustainable construction.
