Speira to be net zero by 2045 based on commitment to Science Based Targets initiative
Global aluminium rolling and recycling company, Speira, today announced its road to net zero. The company commits to be completely decarbonized by 2045. Speira takes a stepwise approach on its road to net zero. Indirect energy emissions (Scope 2) are expected to be net zero by 2035, direct emissions (Scope 1) by 2040 and other indirect emissions (Scope 3) by 2045.
Speira´s net-zero targets will be validated by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi). By working with SBTi and aligning to their Net-Zero Standard, Speira is taking a scientific, collaborative, and accountable approach to reducing emissions.
“Throughout the last year we have done a thorough analysis and developed a bankable and credible plan to become net zero,” says Shamus Donovan, Head of Sustainability at Speira.
Key pillars to reduce Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions will be electrification and alternative fules, the use of renewable energy sources and the continued focus on energy efficiency. Achieving Scope 3 net-zero emissions will be based on our growth in aluminum recycling, a strong focus on low CO2 metal sourcing and the continued development of recycling friendly alloys.
“We are very ambitious on our ESG agenda, and we are now setting out a clear pathway of how we’ll use the influence of our business and investments to support and drive the transition to a zero-carbon society,” says Einar Glomnes, CEO of Speira.
